When I started my business San Pedro Fit, little did I know that I was going to be able to impact so many people’s lives… I feel truly blessed to have this kind of job where I can see someone transform their mind (first) to be able to help them transform their body (second and almost right away).
But in my early years of training people, I noticed that some people would reach a goal, and right after, they “released the motivation”, stopped training, and go back to their old habits, many times gaining the weight back or even more.
But now I know better, I do more coaching than actual training. I still train many hours in my day, but I invest lots of my time on learning how I can coach more so the results stick for life, that is my goal with each of my clients.
So before you join any workout program you must commit to NEVER do the following 3 things:
1. Do not make a GOAL without committing to have a new goal-setting session with your coach as you approach your first milestone.
Make sure your goal has a time frame so you can measure your progress. Goals aren’t written in stone, you can always modify the date you will accomplish, but do not lose sight of this, putting a time on the table will hold you more accountable than if you don’t. And know that you MUST set a new goal as BEFORE you reach your first goal.
2. Do not keep it to yourself. Share your goal and be humble enough to ask for help, you will need it!
As soon as my clients start working with me, I tell them that they must have a conversation with their friends and family, some go as far as posting it on social media, but you don’t have to, as long as they know you’ll be trading unhealthy food at gatherings for social hikes and tea time, your friends will be happy and most likely will follow you… Some times later than you wish for, but eventually they will support you.
3. Do not try to do this on your own. GET HELP!! If you tried many times to do this on your own, most likely there is a pattern that needs to be broken. You do not need to find the trainer that has 1000 certifications, look for someone who has changed people’s lives, someone that you like and will push you. When you choose a trainer make sure you choose one that has a coaching background, and make sure you are coachable yourself 😉
